Flights to Tanna
Regular flights from your country of departure to Port Vila, the capital of Vanuatu, are available with Qantas Airlines, Air Vanuatu, Air New Zealand and Pacific Blue and flying time is just 2.5 hours from Brisbane, 3.5 hours from Sydney and 2 hours from Auckland.
Flights are also available via Noumea with Air Calin and via Fiji with Air Pacific.
Air Vanuatu flies from Port Vila to Tanna every day. The flight is approximately one hour.
We are able to book your domestic flights from Port Vila to Tanna. Please just let us know which dates you are looking at, who you will be flying with internationally and how many people are looking at travelling.
Private charter flights are also available, including chartered Seaplane flights or helicopter flights from Port Vila to Tanna landing on the beach at Friendly Bungalows.
Advance bookings are advised, especially at times of celebrations or festivals.
Transport from Tanna Airport to Friendly Bungalows
Once you are in Tanna, you will need pre-arranged transfers as there are no taxi's or cars for hire in Tanna.
Our Friendly Bungalows 4WD (or similar car) and trusted driver will be waiting for you at Tanna domestic Airport, ready to collect you for the trip across to the volcano side of the island and down the beach to Friendly Bungalows.
The journey is about 1.5 hours and depending on weather can be quite an adventure, and you will immediately feel like you have arrived in Tanna as every friendly face you pass smiles a huge grin and waves. You will pass through the jungle, past villages, schools and roadside market stalls.
Transport may be in the cab of the car, or like a true local you may have the chance to ride in the back on the bench and cushions.
At the half way mark we stop and the view will take your breath away. You see the ash plains of Mt Yasur, the deep ravines of the rivers meandering their way to the ocean and in the distance you see the peaks of more outer islands, Erromango to the north, Aniwa and Futuna to the east.
Only another 30 minutes and you are relaxing with a refreshing welcome lime juice on the black sand beach of Friendly Bungalows.
